Makers Alley to open first fiber arts exhibition at its new center

The member-based, art and design collective, Makers Alley, will presents its first exhibit of fiber art and textiles titled “Textile Expressions – an Explanation of Fiber Arts.”

Curated by fiber artist, wearable art maker, and Makers Alley member Mary Schwarzenberger, the contemporary exhibition featuring over 20 artists at work in the Delaware River Valley, will be open to the public on Saturday and Sundays Feb. 25 to March 12, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the former Milford Bank, 34 Bridge Street, Milford, N.J.

“Fiber art includes creations that use fiber and possess aesthetic value. These works communicate a message, emotion, or meaning beyond literal meaning of the materials. Fiber art can include quilting, knitting, and felting. Textiles cover and protect us from the moment we are born up until we die. Life’s most significant events are expressed in many ways with treasured textiles,” explains Schwarzenberger.

Visitors are welcome to take a tour of the Makers Alley facility and see the artists and artisan spaces and view the current art and sculpture member exhibition.

Fiber artists include: Bonnie Berkowitz, Deborah Conti, Tatiana Oles, Betty Czerwinski, Erika Rachel, Carol Esch, Mary Schwarzenberger, Rita Gekht, Carter Smith, Rebecca Graham, Elizabeth Smith Jacobs, Gina Krejsa, Gail Sorkow, Joan Lasota, Nicole Strafaci, Jill Lonergan, Piroska Toth, Bonnie MacAllister, Hon Wai Kuen, Teri Nalbone and Heidi Zielinski.
