Local group is supporting family in Afghanistan

Posted

A family of Afghans who supported United States allies mission for 20 years is trapped inside Taliban controlled Afghanistan. The family reached out to Project NAGA Inc., a Bucks County-based nonprofit and public charity.
The Taliban have been conducting door-to-door searches attempting to find local former government employees.
Ahmad did work as a legal assistant within an Afghan legal office; during the implementation of new systems, the U.S. government assigned an American advisor to provide guidance. Ahmad lost his job when the Taliban took control of Kabul. Under any other circumstances, someone losing a job as a legal assistant is not a significant event.
However, Ahmad had regular contact with the American advisor in Afghanistan for nearly two years. Unfortunately, these activities now put him and his family in immediate danger. The Taliban continue to undertake raids in search of ex-government workers in his neighborhood.
Ahmad’s daughter, Baran, recently returned from Germany to help the family, only being trapped by the Taliban to complicate the situation further. Ahmad and his family are in greater danger daily as the Taliban perform more searches around the nation. Yet, his repeated attempts to enter the United States through the visa program have met with roadblocks.

Ahmad has been paying the price for taking a job with the United States and its allies. He and his family have been in hiding for weeks, terrified for their lives. His dread of vengeance is heightened by news of every province that has fallen under Taliban control, which he believes will lead to their deaths.
Since that time, his daughter in the United States took action. Ahmad’s other daughter, Freshta, is a permanent resident in the United States. Freshta began working with Project NAGA only a few days ago.
The group tracked down university contacts in Germany, the American advisor, congressional support, and is working with congressional and state representatives in two states to evacuate Freshta’s remaining family members.
As a result, state Rep. Perry Warren immediately sent the information to Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick’s office. Their offices quickly responded to the crisis and regularly contact the family and Project NAGA to provide updates.
