Local author to share story of self-discovery following job loss

Posted

At a time when millions of Americans are walking away from their jobs in what’s called “The Great Resignation,” local author and former high-tech PR executive James Kerr will share his story of personal reinvention following job loss at age 55, at a book signing event at the Next Chapter Bookstore in Sellersville at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15.

Kerr’s recently released book, “The Long Walk Home: How I Lost My Job as a Corporate Remora Fish and Rediscovered My Life’s Purpose” (Blydyn Square Books, April 2022), recounts the day when, shortly before his 56th birthday, he learned he would be losing his job at the technology company where he’d worked for nearly three decades and served as head of Global Communications.

Reeling from the news, he left his car behind at the office and walked more than 20 miles home. A 50-minute commute turned into a seven-hour odyssey into the self as the author reflected on why he stayed so long in a corporate environment where he never really felt at home. His “great letting go” became a springboard to reclaim his authentic self from a world intent on bringing people to common sameness.

The book is available in paperback and ebook.
