Local artists paint Bucks County for “Wish You Were Here”

Posted
More than 50 regional artists have been out and about this fall, drawing, painting and photographing beloved Bucks County landmarks, historic sites, and quiet spaces.

They are capturing the essence of Bucks County highlights – covered bridges, historical venues, museums and cultural centers, street fronts, rolling hillsides, farmlands, covered bridges, lakes, river views, broad vistas, intimate corners, and more.

These artists are preparing works for “Bucks County: Wish You Were Here,” a two-month virtual small works art exhibition and sale that marks a unique collaboration between the Arts & Cultural Council of Bucks County and Visit Bucks County.

In this initiative, the Arts & Cultural Council of Bucks County invited artists to create postcard-sized works that will be exhibited and sold through an online exhibition at bucksarts.org, displayed at the Bucks County Visitor Center in Bensalem, and be made available as postcards for Visit Bucks County to distribute throughout the region in 2021.

Artworks will be juried upon submission by Visit Bucks County and Arts & Cultural Council representatives. The top six works will be selected for reproduction on thousands of postcards to be distributed throughout the county through Visit Bucks County channels. Individual artist names and contact information, including website and social media pages, will be included on the postcards as well. Winners will be announced in mid-December.

The exhibition has been organized by Arts & Cultural Council Board members Ruth Anderson, Robbin Farr and Jane Ramsey. They believe the exhibition provides artists and the community with the opportunity to step back and appreciate all that Bucks County has to offer. “How lucky we are to live where natural beauty partners with history and a wealth of talented artists eager to share their visual interpretations of the region with us.”

Sandy Askey-Adams has been a member of the Arts & Cultural Council since 2007. She is inspired by the theme of the “Wish You Were Here” exhibition – to visit Bucks County. “It has given artists the opportunity to venture to parts of Bucks County that we maybe had never explored. It has also encouraged art lovers to visit sites we have featured in our work and watch us paint.”

Heather Walter is the Marketing Director for Visit Bucks County. She is particularly excited to see the postcard component of the exhibition come to fruition. She believes the collaboration with the Arts & Cultural Council of Bucks County on this unique arts and tourism initiative will not only draw visitors to Bucks County in the months ahead but will also provide Visit Bucks County with distinctive marketing materials for venues throughout the region.

“Bucks County: Wish You Were Here” opens online Dec. 1 at bucksarts.org/onlineshowwinter2020/.
