For several years, Toni Buck, 70, of Sellersville, has joined thousands on the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s iconic steps for a giant annual yoga class to raise support for people with breast cancer.
But she “never [thought] that this year it would hit home.”
“No one in our family ever had breast cancer,” she said. That’s changed now: Next Sunday, her newly married, newly diagnosed daughter will be top of mind as Buck takes part in Living Beyond Breast Cancer’s Reach & Raise.
Buck and her daughter will join many yoga teams from across the region at Reach and Raise the morning of May 19 – including teams led by Doylestown’s Christy Booth and Lauri Weiss of Southampton.
Reach & Raise takes place rain or shine from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The highlight of the event is a one-hour mindful yoga class at 9:30 a.m. for all ages and skill levels designed and led by Reach & Raise co-founder Jennifer Schelter, a Yoga Alliance certified instructor named “Best of Philly” founder of the Radiant Retreat, with Kirtan accompaniment by Yvette Pecoraro and other area musicians. Following the class, participants enjoy refreshments while shopping and gathering resources at the Namaste Village featuring event sponsors, local area businesses, yoga studios and nonprofit organizations.
Participants who raise or donate $100 or more for LBBC will receive a “With You, For You” T-shirt designed especially for the event by Amberella, a Philadelphia and Los Angeles-based mixed media and street artist.
Reach & Raise registration is $30 for adults and $10 for children ages 5 to 18 through May 17. On-site registration is available the day of the event at $50 per adult. For information, visit
