Thoughts from an Epicure: Fifteen years with the Herald

Posted

Fifteen years ago this month, the Bucks County Herald published my first “Thoughts from an Epicure” column. It has been a great run so far, which I hope will continue for many more years.
I’ve written for several different publications over the last few decades. You Herald readers are among the best where responses are concerned. I’ve received a lot of feedback, mostly positive and a few negative.
That’s good. It keeps me on my toes. Our readers have made suggestions, corrected some of my errors, and been quite responsive.
Through the years, I’ve tried to offer the types of recipes and tips that I find simple and generally tasty. When I’ve asked for help, you’ve been there. One specific example that comes to mind was when our local supermarket dropped my favorite peanut butter made only with peanuts, no salt or anything else. Thanks to your responses, I was able to find that brand in another supermarket.
Since the columns have included a variety of recipes including my homemade Boursin cheese spread, Sue’s easy sausage roll appetizers, “Scotch” shortbread cookies, Patti’s “embarrassingly” easy fudge and vanilla wafers, along with a few others, all are available. If you would like a copy of any of them or have requests or questions, please drop us an email.

Now that the holidays are here and things still aren’t “normal”, please be careful when visiting friends and family. And remember that most people prefer homemade goodies over much “store bought” stuff. Putting some of your time and love into a gift is appreciated at any time of the year, particularly now.
Since life has been a bit upsetting for a couple of years, give your children, grandchildren, and one another especially long hugs. We all need them.
Patti and I wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and a warm holiday season. Enjoy and stay safe.
