Lecture about Women Camp Followers set

Posted

Washington Crossing Historic Park (PA) will hold a free lecture about women camp followers at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, May 22.

The lecture will be held in person at the park’s visitor center, 1112 River Road in Washington Crossing, and live streamed on Zoom.

During the lecture, Carrie Fellows, executive director of the Hunterdon County Cultural & Heritage Commission, will examine the life of the women who followed the Continental Army during the American Revolution.

Through glimpses found in period references, writings and images, this talk will explore the reasons why women left reasonably secure situations for the uncertainty of following the army. Fellows will also describe the duties women performed and how they were compensated.

Registration is required at WashingtonCrossingPark.org/events for both in-person and virtual attendance as space is limited. Those watching on Zoom will receive login information when they register. If you do not receive an email confirmation after you register, call 215-493-4076.
