Lambertville’s Luminary Coffee welcomes poets

Posted

Luminary Coffee, 243 N. Union St., Lambertville, will host award-winning poet Douglas Piccinnini of Frenchtown to celebrate the release of “Beautiful, Safe & Free” (New Books), his second full-length collection of poems, with a reading, at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 11.

The heart of Piccinnini’s new book is elegiac, sifting through the linguistic, economic, and cultural detritus of 21st-century America. These “refreshingly unpredictable” poems arrive at “unsettling truths about modern anxiety.”

Piccinnini will be joined by visiting poets Tamas Panitz of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Jonny Collazo of Atlanta, Ga. The writers will read from their latest works as part of a collective book tour for New Books of Palm Desert, Calif.

Piccinnini is author of “Blood Oboe” (Omnidawn) and “Story Book: a novella” (The Cultural Society).

His work has been supported by Art Farm, ArtYard, The Elizabeth Bishop Society of Nova Scotia, Sundress Academy for the Arts, The Vermont Studio Center and The Mastheads in Pittsfield, Mass., and has been featured by The Academy of American Poets, American Poetry Review, The Brooklyn Rail, Colorado Review, Denver Quarterly, Fence, Michigan Quarterly Review and Tupelo Quarterly – among other outlets.

Luminary Coffee recently opened with culinary partnerships with Curiosity Donuts and Pie Bird Farm.

The reading is free and open to the public. Books will be available for purchase.
