Lafayette College Art Galleries starts the year with two exhibitions

Posted

In the Grossman Gallery at Lafayette College in Easton, “Emil Lukas: Four Modes” shows four approaches to art-making in which the artist has invested time and material exploration to arrive at “delightful pieces.”

The Williams Center Gallery at the college presents a group exhibition, “Quotidian Images: Contemporary Street Photography” by Matias Aguilar, Peggy Anderson, and Rob Macdonald,” that explores image-making in the public sphere post-pandemic while negotiating the notion of “the decisive moment.”

“Quotidian Images” opened this week and runs through March 5, at the Williams Center Gallery. The three photographers offer their contemplation on public spaces. There will be an Artist Talk and Opening Reception at 4:30 p.m. Feb. 9, in Room 108, Williams Center for the Arts, with a reception to follow in the Williams Center Lobby.

“Emil Lukas: Four Modes,” curated by Robert S. Mattison, runs in the Grossman Gallery through April 15.

This exhibition features four types of work, Puddles, Larva Paintings, Thread Paintings, and Bubble Paintings, that have formed one basis of Emil Lukas’ practice over decades. While initially, the modes seem distinct in material and appearance, they are rooted in Lukas’ passion for inquiry, experiment, discovery, and intuition.

There will be an Artist Talk and Reception at 4:30 p.m. Feb. 2, at Landis Cinema, 219 N. 3rd St., with a reception to follow in Grossman Gallery, 243 N. 3rd St. An Artist Exhibition Walk-Through is planned for March 2, in the Grossman Gallery, with a reception to follow.
