La Fiocco presents free seasonal concert

La Fiocco, the Bucks County-based baroque music ensemble, continues its 2022-2023 season with a holiday concert titled “To Drive the Cold Winter Away,” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16.

The program features works by Henry VIII (1491-1547), Salamone Rossi (c. 1570-c. 1630), Philipp Friedrich Böddecker (1607-1683), John Playford (1623-1686), and Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750), as well as traditional music of Sweden & Ireland, and a new piece by Owen Davitt.

The musicians performing on period instruments are Owen Davitt, recorder, Allen Hamrick, dulcian and recorder, Nadir Aslam, baroque violin, Nathan Bishop, nyckelharpa and baroque violin, Donna Fournier, viola da gamba and baroque cello, Benjamin Rechel, viola da gamba, and Jorge Torres, theorbo and baroque guitar.

The concert at Trinity Episcopal Church, 6587 Upper York Road, Solebury, will also feature soprano Abigail W. Chapman, and will be led by music director Lewis R. Baratz, who also performs on recorder and harpsichord.

Admission is free, and the concert is open to the public. Masks are strongly recommended. More information about La Fiocco’s 2022-2023 season can be found at lafiocco.org.
