Posted

La Fiocco performs its 2019-2020 season opening concert titled “Stravaganza in Eco,” a 17th-century festival from Venice and Saxony, with music by Giovanni Gabrieli, Michael Praetorius, Gioseffo Guami and Andreas Hammerschmidt.

The concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at 1867 Sanctuary, 101 Scotch Road, Ewing, N.J., and again at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, at Trinity Episcopal Church, 6587 Upper York Road, Solebury (New Hope).

Tickets are $25 general, $10 students and free for children 12 and younger when accompanied by an adult. They are available at the door (check or cash), or at lafiocco.org.

La Fiocco will partner with the Washington Cornett and Sackbutt Ensemble, and the Bucks County Community College Madrigal Singers for this concert.

In addition, music director Lewis R. Baratz, who is on the faculty of Lafayette College, will lead an ensemble to include baroque violins, baroque viola, baroque cello, recorder, harpsichord and organ.

“‘Stravaganza in Eco’ is a tribute to the sacred music tradition in Venice at the very beginning of the Baroque era. The music was particularly lavish, and was known for its echo effects,” he said.

“We are delighted to partner with the country’s foremost Renaissance and Baroque brass ensemble who will play sackbutts and cornettos, and with an excellent local choral group. In all, this promises to be one of our most ambitious programs yet.”
