Members of the Delaware Valley Council No. 7581 Knights of Columbus recently served as volunteers at the Northern Trust FedEx Championship Golf Tournament.
In 2014, the council was made aware of an opportunity to participate as volunteers at the FedEx Golf Championship Series, for which it received a donation from the PGA for its charitable organization.
The council participated in 2014 and 2015 when the tournament was known as the Barclays. In 2016 and 2017 the tournaments were held in New York, and the council resumed participation when the tournament returned to New Jersey in 2018.
Now known as the Northern Trust FedEx Championship Series kickoff tournament, the 2019 tournament was played at the Liberty National Golf Club Aug. 4 to 11.
To the Knights’ surprise, the small council (100 members) received recognition in the official tournament program for achieving the Birdie level by providing between 50 and 100 volunteers for the tournament. Only two other larger organizations were recognized at this level.
The tournament returns to Liberty National Golf Club in 2021 and the council will once again participate, with the goal of reaching the Eagle level of providing over 100 volunteers. Individuals do not have to be members of the Knights of Columbus to participate.
