Kin receives $50,000 donation from Getchell Foundation

Posted

Kin, an all-inclusive wellness and support center providing free services to cancer patients and their caregivers across Bucks County, has received a $50,000 donation from The Peter E. and Catherine R. Getchell Foundation.

The nonprofit, which is 100% funded by the community, relies on donations, both financial and in-kind to provide care to nearly 200 cancer patients and their families.

Catherine Getchell, who also serves as a Founding Partner of Kin, was one of the first people in the community to offer a significant financial contribution when the nonprofit was in the planning and development phase allowing Kin to fast track and open in record time.

“The first of three cases of cancer in my immediate family prompted me to devote my energies and resources to cancer research for many decades,” she said. “I still support research, but when I read about Kin, I could see how such a place would help lift the burden of cancer for both the patient, family, and caregiver. That is why I continue to support Kin.”

“I credit Cathie and her foundation with being a driving force behind making our young nonprofit solvent at a crucial time in our growth and development. Her early adoption has made a significant impact on our patients. It is my hope that this donation inspires others in the community to look to our 100% donation funded nonprofit when they want to support local cancer patients in a meaningful way,” stated Keith Fenimore, founding member and executive director of Kin.

In addition to sponsorships, Kin also offers naming rights to select areas within the 5,000-square-foot center that includes; four treatment suites, a living room, kitchen, events space, yoga and fitness studio and welcome area.

Kin was built by the community over a 10-month period from February 2021 until Dec. 8, 2021 when doors were opened to the public. Currently health care organizations including Fox Chase Cancer Center, Doylestown Health, Alliance, Jefferson University Hospital, Penn Medicine, Trinity, Grand View Hospital and St. Luke’s refer their cancer patients to Kin for care.

Fox Chase Cancer Center and Grand View Hospital are official sponsors. Kin has 50 practitioners and instructors who offer a full range of services including reflexology, massage, facials, reiki, acupuncture, chiropractic, EFT tapping, meditation, therapy, support groups, cooking and nutrition, stretching and balance, yoga, light fitness, Barre3, pilates and workshops.
