“Stella!” is one of the most recognized lines from stage and screen, yet many may not realize that this anguished cry comes from Stanley Kowalski in Tennessee Williams’ “A Streetcar Named Desire.”
That cry and the rest of the 1948 Pulitzer Prize winning drama will open at Town & Country Players on Friday, June 3.
“A Streetcar Named Desire” tells the story of Blanche DuBois, played by Meghan Sudol Crook, a former Southern belle who after encountering a series of personal losses, leaves her privileged background to move into a shabby apartment in New Orleans rented by her sister, Stella Kowalski, played by Kyla Donnelly, and brother-in-law, Stanley Kowalski, played by Ryan Henzes.
Director Jon Knapp calls this show “a timeless classic with themes centering on the clash of people due to class divisions and the impact of mental health struggles in a family that are as relevant and powerful today as when Streetcar was written 75 years ago.”
