Mention the name Lou Stalsworth to nearly anyone involved in area theater, and the reaction will be enthusiastically positive.
The reason? Stalsworth is one of those special directors who is gifted in his craft.
He knows how to choose interesting plays to produce. He is perceptive in casting actors whose performances make the audience think, laugh, cry and talk about the play or musical they have just seen.
Stalworth’s production of “Miss Saigon” several years ago was breathtaking, for instance, playing to sold out audiences.
Now, PinnWorth Productions has produced a Pulitzer-winning play, “Tally’s Folly,” written by Langford Wilson, as the first entertainment of 2022 to be produced on the stage of the Kelsey Theatre just across the Delaware, at Mercer County Community College. This is PinnWorth’s first show since “Tartuffe” closed more than two years ago.
The Kelsey Theatre has been mostly dark and its directors want to remind everyone what they do and how well we they do it.
There is just this coming weekend for deprived theater lovers, to see this romantic comedy played by two outstanding experienced actors: Jack Bathke of Robbinsville, N.J., as Matt Friedman, and Kyla Donnelly, Princeton Junction, N.J., as Sally Tally. Bathke is president of Langhorne Players, based in Newtown.
