Kelly Bellerby-Allen believes that too many businesses have closed

As a longtime owner of a beauty salon, Kelly Bellerby-Allen believes the forced closings of businesses due to the pandemic could have been handled differently.

“We were closed for three months. Within the first week I knew I could have opened safely for my clients,” she said.

A Republican candidate for state representative of the 141st District, she believes that too many businesses have been forced to close because of state restrictions due to the coronavirus. She says the state should offer support to the businesses still in distress.

“I think there should be ways we can reach out and help small businesses,” she said.

On the issue of HB 2782, which proposes that local government should have control over determining the playing and audience of school sports, Bellerby-Allen believes that parents and family members who abide by guidelines for safety measures should be able to watch sports. “Local governments should be control” of safety requirements, she said.

She supports extending unemployment benefits through the end of this year, then “We should look at it,” she said. “It’s too soon to decide now; in November we should take a look at it.”

Bellerby-Allen sees the solution to potential evictions due to the pandemic as something that should be solved by a mediator appointed by each county.

“A mediator would work between renters and landlords to set up a payment schedule,” she said.

To avoid potential problem hirings by police departments Bellery-Allen supports a national data base for police firings. Rather than restructuring police departments she favors considering additional training for existing officers.

Regarding the environment, she sees climate change as something that needs to be looked at. “We need to address the issue,” she said.

In addition to owning Glamour tanning and beauty salon in Bristol, Bellerby-Allen has worked as a financial advisor and as a life and health insurance producer. She also has experience in hotel and restaurant management and small business management. She is a lifelong resident of Bucks County and is married to Keith Allen. She attended Bucks County Community College and graduated from Broward County Community College.

The 14st District comprises portions of Bristol and Middletown townships, Hulmeville and Penndel.
