Keith Spencer brings “Brothers on Broadway” to area stage

Posted

Nationally recognized baritone vocalist Keith Spencer will present his musical tribute, “Brothers on Broadway – A Celebration of Broadway’s African-American Leading Men,” in partnership with the Capital Philharmonic of New Jersey and On Demand! Programs and Events.

For the first time, it will be presented as a full orchestral experience courtesy of the Capital Philharmonic of New Jersey, Trenton’s professional symphony orchestra.

The show will take place at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at Patriots Theater at the War Memorial, 1 Memorial Drive, Trenton, N.J. Tickets are available at capitalphilharmonic.org or call 215-893-1999.

In the one-man celebratory tribute to Broadway’s African-American leading men, Spencer leads a musical journey from humble reflections of black minstrelsy through the undeniable progress afforded African Americans through musical theater.

“Brothers on Broadway” pays homage to the concert works and musical theater performances of artists such as Paul Robeson, Ben Vereen, Sammy Davis, Jr., Gregory Hines, Brian Stokes Mitchell, and many notable others.

Commemorating African American History Month, the two-hour concert experience includes well-known selections from shows such as “Porgy and Bess,” “Ragtime,” “Pippin,” “The Phantom of the Opera,” and more.
