Kehilat HaNahar member educates members on Yiddish poetry

Posted

Kehilat HaNahar member David Stoller conducted a class Sunday, Jan. 19, on the “Treasures of Yiddish Poetry,” for other members of The Little Shul by the River in New Hope.

After an orientation about the history of Yiddish, the class read, in English, poems that had originally been written in Yiddish in the early and mid-20th century.

The poems, many reflecting the harsh realities of Jewish life in Europe before and during the Holocaust, have been almost lost to the dustbin of history, making them all the more poignant to hear.
