Jeff Marshall will speak about early log homes history and architecture

Posted

The fall meeting of the Williams Township Historical Society features Jeff Marshall, who will dispel misconceptions about who built log homes and their popularity over time.

The public is invited to attend the program at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, at St. John’s Church on Morgan Hill, 2720 Morgan Hill Road, Easton (Williams Township).

“Nothing evokes the spirit of pioneer America more than the log cabin,” Marshall notes in his account of the true story of this American icon. Marshall has gained recognition for his success in land preservation with the Heritage Conservancy, Doylestown, and was awarded Pennsylvania’s most prestigious historic award, the F. Otto Haas Award, for contributions and consistent achievement above the standards of the profession.

Marshall has researched the history and historic architecture of log homes of Bucks County; Williams Township once formed a part of Bucks County. Owners of log homes often hiding beneath more recent exteriors have been invited to add footnotes at the close of Marshall’s illustrated talk.

The program is free. Copies of a special Penn Patent Land Grant map showing outlines of original Williams Township land grants and other WTHS publications will be for sale. For information, call 610-253-8951.

Jeff Marshall holds the F. Otto Haas Award in recognition of contributions and consistent achievement above the standards of the profession.
