Delaware Valley Music Club’s spring gala event “Music Throughout the Years” June 5 celebrated Big Band music featuring the rhythms and melodies of history’s greatest jazz artists including Louis Armstrong, the Dorseys, Benny Goodman, Harry James, Artie Shaw and other groups that have energized audiences from the 1920s upward.
Rousing applause greeted Philadelphia’s Jazz Sanctuary, led by Alan Segal and his quintet, with guest vocalist Pam Orlando, rolling out one hit tune after another, awakening fond memories and drawing people of all ages to the dance floor.
The fundraising event, attended by Delaware Valley Music Club members and their guests, was held in support of the club’s Marie Paxson Outreach Program promotes the love and appreciation of music among local school children.
In place of a paid caterer, club members provided their own gourmet dishes, prepared in their homes, then served buffet-style at the church, along with an assortment of desserts. A selection of fine wines, served by Stafford Wavrek, the club’s genial master of ceremonies and official sommelier, was served as well.
The Delaware Valley Music Club is planning its 2022-23 season and invites the public to visit delvalmusicclub.org for a rebroadcast of its past concerts as well as announcements of future events.
