It’s time to celebrate the Rolling Harvest success

10th anniversary celebration is Oct. 8

Rolling Harvest Food Rescue is inviting the community to celebrate with us as we mark the milestones of a decade of farm-based food rescue and the four million pounds of healthful, fresh food we’ve redistributed to our food-insecure neighbors in need throughout all of Bucks County, and into neighboring counties in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Building on 10 years of experience and creating deep relationships within the community, Rolling Harvest has been committed to making sure no healthful food is left behind in the fields or sent to landfills while so many among us are still going hungry.

We now partner with more than 40 farms, glean and redistribute all of their appealing surplus produce and organic proteins to more than 80 emergency feeding programs. Recipient organizations include food pantries, shelters, soup kitchens, senior centers, clinics and many other social service organizations all looking to provide much healthier food choices than they would otherwise be able to access, as well as free mobile farm markets directly to thousands of community residents each week.

With the help of more than 250 dedicated volunteers, we are turning food pantries into farmers markets, finally offering vulnerable families the freshest, most nutrient-rich food available to enhance their overall health and well-being.

Covid revealed the true scope and scale of hunger and food-insecurity in so many of our local underserved communities. That need persists even as we are emerging from the pandemic. Today more families are struggling to balance very limited budgets to take care of their basic needs in the face of rising costs. And more than ever are turning to their local food pantries and social service organizations for help feeding their families. We know that by pausing for a moment to look back on a decade of gleaning and see all we have been able to accomplish, our celebration will also galvanize us all to Keep on Rolling into the next decade and beyond.

Rolling Harvest Food Rescue is a 501(C)3 nonprofit tax-exempt organization registered in 2012 in the state of Pennsylvania.

Cathy Snyder is founder and executive director of Rolling Harvest.
