Irish folk band Lankum plays Jan. 9, at the Sellersville Theater, as part of its first U.S. tour.
Rough Trade released the group’s second critically acclaimed album, “Between the Earth and Sky,” last fall. Since then, Lankum has won Best Group and Best Song at the BBC Folk Awards, been nominated for Album of the Year at Folk Alliance, and won Best Folk Group.
In addition, band member Radie Peat won Best Folk Singer at the inaugural RTE Radio 1 Folk Awards.
The Dublin band combines four-part vocal harmonies with arrangements of uilleann pipes, concertina, accordion, fiddle and guitar. Its repertoire spans humorous Dublin music-hall ditties and street-songs, classic ballads from the Traveller tradition, traditional Irish and American dance tunes, and the band’s original material.
In addition to Peat, the band is comprised of the brothers Ian and Daragh Lynch and Cormac MacDiarmada.
