Ice hockey: CB South advances


Colin Abbonizio scored six goals to lead No. 1 Central Bucks South past No. 8 CB West 13-3 in the quarterfinal round of the Suburban High School Hockey League playoffs Monday night at Hatfield Ice.

South’s Aidan Gaffney, Connor Gaffney and Dominic Patrone contributed two goals apiece and Daniel Kvecher added a goal for the Titans. CB West’s Jake Lang found the back of the net twice and Keith Orlando tallied one goal for the Bucks.

The top-seeded Titans advanced to play No. 4 Neshaminy in the semifinal round Wednesday night at Hatfield Ice (results unavailable at press time). In other quarterfinal action Monday night, Neshaminy defeated No. 5 CB East 5-3 and No. 3 Council Rock South beat No. 6 Pennridge 8-1.

The winner of the CB South-Neshaminy game will battle either CR South or North Penn for the SHSHL championship at Hatfield Ice Thursday night.

Regardless of Thursday’s outcome, CB South has secured the top seed in the Flyers Cup 2A tournament. The Titans’ Flyers Cup run begins Tuesday, March 3 against No. 16 Conestoga. The same day, No. 6 Council Rock South will play No. 11 Parkland, No. 9 CB East will face No. 8 Boyertown, No. 10 Pennridge will battle No. 7 Neshaminy and No. 15 CB West will take on No. 2 Haverford High.
