Hunterdon Huskies give back in aftermath of Ida flooding

Posted

When Ida hit New Jersey, it was categorized as a tropical storm.
However, the destruction and devastation to many local communities was nothing short of its original hurricane status. A big part of the Hunterdon Huskies organization is giving back to the community. So when word reached the Huskies organization that numerous American Youth Football and Cheer families from the Middlesex Blue Jays were affected by Ida’s flash flooding, the Huskies went into action.
A request went out for donations to help the Middlesex Blue Jays organization, who also compete in the same American Youth Football and Cheer Jersey Shore Conference division. Donations were accepted at the next Huskies home football game, and the delivery was coordinated by Hunterdon Huskies Football Commissioner Mark Charbonneau. The donations filled multiple vehicles, as they headed to the Middlesex Blue Jay families and community with the help of Chris Maynard, president of the Middlesex Blue Jays and AYF board member.

Hunterdon Huskies 12U football player Luke Charbonneau and 14U football junior coach Victor Farino assisted with the distribution of the donations, which ranged from cleaning supplies to paper towels, mops, gloves, blankets, soap, comforters, clothes, coloring books, crayons, school supplies, and personal hygiene items. In addition, a donation check in the amount of $1,500 was presented to the Middlesex Blue Jays organization for their efforts to replace any equipment that was lost from the storm at the 9U season finale football game.
The Hunterdon Huskies are celebrating their 50th anniversary year. The Hunterdon Huskies 14U football team advanced in the AYF Jersey Shore playoffs after defeating the Berkeley Golden Eagles and the Red Bank Buccaneers in the first two rounds of the playoffs, but ended their season in the semifinal round against the Sayreville Jr. Bombers.
The Hunterdon Huskies organization are 13-time national champions, have 14 state titles and 31 conference championships.
