Hunterdon Healthcare System plans operating room expansion

Posted

Hunterdon Healthcare System will embark on a multi-year operating room suite expansion that will significantly increase the capacity to perform advanced surgeries at Hunterdon Medical Center.
The initiative is expected to take several years with phase one, the addition of two new operating rooms, to be completed by the end of 2022. Construction is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2022 and will not interrupt patient care.
Once completed, the suite of eight operating rooms will provide surgeons state-of-the-art spaces including new and improved surgical equipment and technologies, allowing for greater quality of care. The two new operating rooms in phase one will significantly increase the surgical options available to our neurology and orthopedic teams in the areas of spinal and total joint surgery.

The project encompasses new construction and renovation to existing space of more than 3,500 square feet. The expansion of surgical services at Hunterdon Medical Center will benefit over 130,000 residents—in 2020, 4,562 surgeries were performed in the operating room.
Phase one is expected to be fully funded with $1.5 million in philanthropic support through Hunterdon Healthcare Foundation. Hunterdon Anesthesia Associates, Hunterdon Medical Center’s anesthesia providers have paved the way with a $750,000 gift made in the spring of 2021.
