Hot air balloon festival returns to Hunterdon for 37th year

Colorful balloons filling the sky, concerts, amusement rides, fireworks and food will all be in one place – at the 37th annual QuickChek New Jersey Festival of Ballooning.

The three-day festival – 1 to 10 p.m. Friday, July 26; 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, July 27 and 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 28 – at Solberg Airport, 39 Thor Solberg Road, Readington, N.J., offers a headlining concert by The Beach Boys at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 28.

The festival, in association with PNC Bank, features the opportunity to see up to 100 sport and special-shaped hot-air balloons from around the world taking to the skies twice each day in mass ascensions – at 6:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.

The festival also offers a nighttime balloon glow; an extreme trampoline show; experiential attractions and exhibits and crafters.
 
Special shape balloons include the 115-foot-tall QuickChek flying lighthouse and the five-story tall PNC American Flag balloon. Hot air balloon rides and tethered rides are available; visit balloonfestival.com for details.

For children, Dan Zanes and Claudia Eliaza perform at 1:30 p.m. July 26. ABBA performs at 8 p.m. July 26, followed by fireworks. The Band Perry performs at 8 p.m. July 27.
