Meininger’s Sporting Goods Store

Posted

Meininger’s Sporting Goods opened in the late 1940s, owned by Renton W. Meininger Jr. (1925-2020). The first store was at 34 W. State St. in Doylestown, but within 10 years the business had outgrown its State Street location. By the late 1950s it had moved north of Doylestown to 637 N. Easton Road, in the village of Cross Keys. By the end of another 10 years, Meininger’s was the largest sporting goods store in Bucks County.
Ren, as he was called, retired from his successful business after more than 30 years of service to the community. Under new management, his Cross Keys store became Sports Haven in 1984. Since 1990, Buckman’s Ski Shop has occupied the former sporting goods store.
