Posted

Artists of Yardley (AOY) Art Center is hosting the Garden State Watercolor Society (GSWS) for its 52nd annual Open Juried Exhibition.

The watercolor exhibition opens Oct. 8 and runs through Nov. 6, with artists such as Charles McVicker, James Toogood and Lana Privitera. Open to the public Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, it has gallery hours from noon to 5 p.m. The show was juried for acceptance and awards by Mick McAndrews.

AOY Art Center is located in the Janney House at the historic Patterson Farmstead, with panoramic views of the surrounding farmland. The address is 949 Mirror Lake Road, Yardley. It is free to attend.

A unique entry wall at AOY Art Center this year will display GSWS’s corroborative 4th annual art installation, “Draw the Line on War.” This installation displays 88 paintings of 47 of GSWS members’ visual reflections on war and peace in today’s world, installed to form one powerful piece of art. The war in Ukraine and other worldwide conflicts will be symbolically represented, along with the artists’ sincere desires for peace.

Upcoming events in conjunction with the exhibition are:

• On Thursday, Oct. 13 at 7:30 p.m., the historic 1831 Newtown Theatre, 120 N. State St., Newtown, will screen an award-winning feature documentary titled “Art in the Face of War.” Following the screening, Director David Baugnon, will be available for a Q&A session.

Purchase tickets for the one-night-only screening at TheNewtownTheatre.com for $15 per person, or $10 for theater members, AOY Art Center or GSWS members. Any remaining tickets will be sold at the door for $20. For information, visit artinthefaceofwar.com or the events page at thenewtowntheatre.com.

• On Saturday, Oct. 15, from 2 - 4 p.m. (rain date Sunday, Oct. 16) paint en plein air at AOY Art Center. Artists will be on site to paint fall landscapes; bring your own art supplies to paint or come to see the art. Admission is free and open to anyone interested in participating. This is an informal meetup: no instruction is included.

• On Sunday, Oct. 30, at 2 p.m., Garden State Watercolor Society offers a Free Artist Demo via Zoom. Juror, Mick McAndrews, will provide a fun and engaging demonstration of a marine seascape. He will paint a docked fishing boat that will include “marine stuff,” boat, dock, pilings, boathouse, reflection and more. Registration is required at www.gswcs.org.

• On Sunday, Nov. 6 at 2 p.m., GSWS hosts an Awards Presentation and Reception at AOY Art Center, followed by the close of the exhibition at 4 p.m.
