Grey Nun’s art show proceeds to benefit women seeking asylum

Posted

Sister Bridget Connor, a Grey Nun of the Sacred Heart and a native of Philadelphia, will host an exhibition of her artwork Sunday, Sept. 18.

The exhibition, featuring works in oil, will be held at Cranaleith Spiritual Center, 13475 Proctor Road, Philadelphia, from 2 to 8 p.m.

Proceeds from the art show will benefit Asylee Women Enterprise (AWE). AWE is a not-for-profit organization that provides housing and community support for women seeking asylum. AWE journeys with asylum seekers and other forced migrants as they navigate the immigration legal process and begin to heal from past traumas. Under AWE’s auspices, the women offer mutual support to one another in a safe and supportive environment.

Eight congregations of Catholic women began working together in 2011 to provide housing and community support for these women. The Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart were one of those founding congregations. While AWE maintains close relationships with those founding congregations, it is now a secular organization.

Laura Brown, Executive Director of AWE will make a brief presentation at 3 p.m. Sept. 18.
