GoHunterdon offers safety helmet program for local students

Posted

In New Jersey, anyone under 17 years of age that rides a bicycle, or is a passenger on a bicycle, or is towed as a passenger by a bicycle must wear a safety helmet.
However, getting children to wear helmets every time they ride can be a challenge.
GoHunterdon has developed a presentation for local students to demonstrate the importance of wearing a helmet and the potential safety consequences of not wearing a helmet.
“The Smasher” presentation uses a pumpkin to represent a skull and then simulates what may occur in a bicycle crash when wearing a helmet versus not wearing a helmet. The presentation is highly interactive, engaging the students in a very visual demonstration of the way in which a helmet will protect their head.

The presentation is provided as part of goHunterdon’s Safe Routes to School programming.
Presentations have recently been held at Hampton Public School and Frenchtown Elementary School. Upcoming presentations are scheduled at Delaware Township School, Three Bridges Elementary School, Lambertville Public School, Copper Hill Elementary School, and High Bridge Elementary School.
