Posted

Annika Crawford of Washington Crossing had her poem titled, “A violated girl is a field after battle,” selected as the “Best of Issue” winner in the 23rd annual National High School Poetry Contest sponsored by the Live Poets Society of NJ and Just Poetry!!!, the national high school poetry quarterly.
The award carries a $500 scholarship prize and the opportunity to compete for the Easterday Poetry Award, which carries an additional $500 scholarship prize and is awarded to the top poem of the year.
As a rule over 15,000 entries are received each year. These generally include entries from all 50 states, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, U.S. military installations around the world, and from students of U.S. Embassy and missionary families in all corners of the world.

Crawford’s poem was one of only 22 national winners selected from those received this past quarter and was published in the summer issue of Just Poetry!!! and was ultimately selected as the “Best of Issue” winner for the quarter.
Crawford is the daughter of Peter and Susan Crawford and attends the George School under the tutelage of language arts instructor Edna Valdepenas.
Crawford has no specific college plans at this time but will be reviewing and applying to schools for admission in the fall of 2022.
