Join the Friends of the Delaware Canal on three Saturdays in October for their fall canal walks.
This year, due to conditions created by tropical storm Ida, participants will be unable to navigate northern sections of the towpath. Walks will start at the Virginia Forrest Recreation Area and move south.
So, instead of six walks spanning 58.9 miles, there will be three walks covering nearly 30 miles of the southern end of the towpath. Participants will see the sights and learn about the Delaware Canal’s past, present and future.
Planned walks are as follows: Oct. 9 - Virginia Forrest to Washington Crossing, Route 532 - 11.12 miles; Oct. 16 - Washington Crossing, Route 532 to Quality Inn, Morrisville - 8.32 miles; Oct. 23 - Comfort Inn, Morrisville to Riverfront Park - 9.53 miles.
The walks begin at 9 a.m. on each Saturday. Bring a light lunch and beverage each day and wear comfortable shoes. Transportation back to the starting point will be accomplished by car pooling. If you wish to park at the end point in the morning, let the Friends know and arrive by 8:15 a.m. Car pooling to the starting point will be provided.
The walks are free, and donations are welcome. Each walk is limited to 25 people. Email email@example.com or call 215-862-2021 to make your reservations. Masks recommended for those who are not vaccinated.
