“Friday Night Jazz” series returns to Newtown Theatre

Posted

The Newtown Theatre’s monthly “Friday Night Jazz” series returns at 8 p.m. Friday, July 8, with “The Keith Chasin Quintet presents The Music of Bobby Timmons” at 120 N. State St. in Newtown Borough.

Timmons, a Philadelphia jazz pianist and composer, was a soul-jazz musician in the 1950s and 60s who wrote the songs “Moanin” and “This Here.” Timmons died in 1974 at age 38.

Chasin is a Philadelphia-based pianist, arranger and composer who has performed at numerous venues locally and around the U.S., including the Kimmel Center, Birdland, and the Appel Room at Lincoln Center. His music can be heard locally on WRTI and WHYY, and he was featured on WHYY’s House Concert Series in 2021.

He plays each year at the Newtown Theatre’s Black & White Dinner fundraiser and at summer concerts in Washington Crossing Historic Park.

Tickets are available at TheNewtownTheatre.com for $25 per person or $20 for theater members. Any remaining tickets will be sold for $35 at the door on the night of the show, if available. All seating is general admission.

Beer, wine, and canned cocktails will be available for purchase at the theater before and during the concert.
