Former Tull guitarist Martin Barre coming to New Hope

Former Jethro Tull guitarist Martin Barre and his band will perform at the New Hope Winery, 6123 Lower York Road, New Hope at 8 p.m. June 20.

Barre is offering one lucky Bucks County Herald reader a chance to win tickets for two to the concert, along with a meet and greet with Barre prior to the show, at 5 p.m.

To enter for a chance to win, email, or enter via the Bucks County Herald’s Facebook page, by 9 a.m. Monday, June 17.

Barre’s guitar playing was paramount to Jethro Tull’s live and recorded sound, starting with his debut on the band’s classic second album, “Stand Up.”

His unique sound and style contributed enormously to their success, which includes several chart-topping albums, 11 gold and five platinum albums, a Grammy Award for “Crest of a Knave” in 1988, and album sales exceeding 60 million units.

Tull’s music continues to be played worldwide, representing an important part of classic rock history that remains noteworthy today.

Barre is on a short list of “amazing, one-of-a-kind, original, influential, rock ‘n’ roll guitarists.”

He is touring again this year with his own band in support of his new album, “Roads Less Traveled,” which will be released on Cleopatra Records on Oct. 12.

His band’s original music harkens back to the earthy blues-rock of Tull’s earliest days, and his current live set list mixes in some early Tull classics along with original tunes in a heavy blues-rock vein and some choice covers.
