Former New Hope concert promoter, record label founder publishes book

Posted

Jon Zazula, founder of Megaforce Records, will celebrate the release of his new book, “Heavy Tales. The Metal. The Music. The Madness.,” with an in-store signing and Q&A session at Vintage Vinyl Records in Fords, N.J., from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26.

This will be Zazula’s only New Jersey signing.

Known as “Jonny Z,” Zazula was a 19-year New Hope resident and owner of Great Jones World – a shop selling Disneyana collectibles and “Nightmare Before Christmas” rare items on Bridge Street.

He also promoted shows at New Hope-Solebury High School, including sold-out concerts by Danny Wright, John Sebastian, and Woodstock performer Richie Havens to benefit the New Hope Community.

“Heavy Tales” is the never-before-told story of how “Jonny Z” founded New Jersey-based label Megaforce Records with his wife, Marsha, and changed the scope of heavy metal.

The couple signed underground band Metallica and released Metallica’s debut album, “Kill ‘Em All.” Jonny Z went on to manage and launch the careers of many “metal and rock giants.”

Pre-orders for the book are available at the store, at 51 Lafayette Road, Fords, N.J., or at vvinyl.com. Event wristbands are included with pre-orders. The Q&A is open to the public, but a wristband guarantees the book signing. “Heavy Tales” is set for an official release Tuesday, Oct. 29. For information visit Jon Zazula online.
