Flemington Opa! Greek Festival returns to Flemington

Posted

The 16th annual Flemington Opa! Greek Festival kicks off Friday, Sept. 9, for a weekend of food, entertainment, family fun, and shopping.

The festival, running from 5 to 9 p.m. Sept. 9; noon to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10; and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, will once again offer a celebration of Greek culture and fun for the whole family.

It has traditionally taken place every year on the weekend after Labor Day, at St. Anna Greek Orthodox Church, 85 Voorhees Corner Road in Raritan Township, N.J. After a three year hiatus, the event is now back in full swing.

Guests can enjoy Greek food, entertainment, a vendor fair, and a fun zone featuring carnival games and prizes, inflatables and face painting. Church tours will also be offered.

The Flemington Opa! Festival is held rain or shine, with both indoor seating and an outdoor dining tent. Guests can enjoy fresh grilled souvlaki, gyro sandwiches, roasted lamb shank, traditional Greek oven specialties and pastries. This year the taverna bar will feature a special craft beer on tap, Opa Brew22, a blonde ale, will be brewed especially for the festival by Flounder Brewing. Greek wine, and popular domestic beer will also be available as well as traditional soft drinks.

The parish Greek youth dance troupes will entertain throughout the weekend. A Funzone offers activities for young and old.

The Vendor Fair includes representatives from a wide range of businesses offering jewelry, health and beauty products, home improvement, and more. Parking is free and onsite.

Tours of the church interior and its continued beautification are also scheduled. The church interior features recently added stained glass windows.

Each year the festival donates a portion of entrance collections to charity. This year the festival will donate a portion to the Flemington Food Pantry. The suggested festival entrance donation is $2 for adults and children over 12.
