Fire Safety in the Home Contest winners named


The Philadelphia Chapter of the Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriters Society (CPCU), has named the winners of the 36th annual Fire Safety in the Home Contest co-sponsored with the Council Rock School Board.

Students in the Council Rock elementary schools were invited to write essays or create posters on the subject of fire safety during National Fire Prevention Week, Oct. 6 to 12. The panel of judges was comprised of School Board Director Joseph Hidalgo, Northampton Township Fire Marshal Frank Fenton and former Northampton Township Supervisor Pete Palestina, CPCU, who is the coordinator of the contest for the CPCU organization.

The awards will be presented at the Council Rock School Board meeting 7 p.m. Nov. 14 and again at the Northampton Township Board of Supervisors meeting 7:30 p.m. Nov. 20. The Nov. 14 presentation will be held at the Chancellor Center, 30 N. Chancellor St., Newtown and the Nov. 20 presentation will be held at the Northampton Township Administration Building located 55 Township Road, Richboro.

In addition to the CPCU Society awards, the townships will present special citation awards of recognition and state Sens. Tommy Tomlinson and Steve Santarsiero and state Reps. Wendi Thomas and Perry Warren will be presenting commendations from the Pennsylvania House and Senate.

In addition, municipal officials of the township/borough in which the winners reside will also be invited to attend the Nov. 20 presentation to acknowledge the winners with citations from their respective municipalities. U.S. Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick has also been invited to present citations.

The prizes are: first place, $100 cash, plaque, movie tickets; second place, $50 cash, plaque, movie tickets; third place, $50 cash, plaque, movie tickets; fourth place, $50 cash, plaque, movie tickets.

The winners are:

– First and Second Grade category: first place, Gabriel Cocco, Goodnoe Elementary; second place, Johnny Reilly, Goodnoe Elementary; third place, Sofia Ogrizovic, Hillcrest Elementary; fourth place, Andrew Sussman, Hillcrest Elementary;

– Third and Fourth Grade Category: First place, Alison Butkiewicz, Richboro Elementary; second place, Trenton Wackowski, Hillcrest Elementary; third place, Misa Jeiranashnli, Goodnoe Elementary; fourth place, Ichiro Gardner, Welch Elementary;

– Fifth and Sixth Grade Category: First Place, Weston Wackowski, Hillcrest Elementary; second place, Sree Allampally, Goodnoe Elementary; third place, Brian Kiedaisch, Newtown Elementary; fourth place, Emma Paschai, Newtown Elementary.
