Eric Mintel plans holiday concert at New Hope Winery

Jazz musician Eric Mintel is looking forward to his first-ever concert at the New Hope Winery at 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19.

The Bucks County resident and his Eric Mintel Quartet will perform classics from “A Charlie Brown Christmas” by Vince Guaraldi, along with Mintel originals and holiday favorites.

“I’ve been in the area for 26 years, and this is the first time we’re playing there; why it took so long I don’t know,” Mintel said.

The Eric Mintel Quartet features Mintel on piano, Nelson Hill on saxophone, Dave Mohn on drums and Jack Hegyi on bass.

Hill, who has been with the quartet for 15 years, has played with Maynard Ferguson, Buddy Rich and Gloria Estefan. Mohn, who was raised in Lambertville, N.J., and has played with Mintel for 20 years, was a member of Johnny’s Dance Band. Hegyi toured with Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gormé and also performed with Don Rickles.

The Eric Mintel Quartet has performed for Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, as well as at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.

For this concert, in addition to performing Guaraldi’s “Charlie Brown Christmas” favorites, Mintel plans to premier some of his new music.

“I wrote a bunch of new holiday tunes,” he said, adding some are ballads and some are high-energy. Titles include “The Christmas Gift,” Heart of the Holidays” and Christmas Past.”

Mintel said he hopes New Hope Winery regulars will join his fans at the holiday concert.
