Elizabeth Pitcairn performs for Solebury School community

Posted

On Nov. 2, violin virtuoso Elizabeth Pitcairn, Class of ’91, held two special concerts at Solebury School.
She performed with one of the world’s most legendary instruments, the 1720 Red Mendelssohn Stradivarius that is said to have inspired the film, “The Red Violin,” and was formerly owned by composer Felix Mendelssohn’s family.
Accompanied by Dr. Louise Thomas on the piano, Pitcairn’s performances were thrilling and educational for Solebury students, faculty, staff, alumni, and alumni families. Due to COVID restrictions, the concerts were not open to the public.

A 1991 graduate of Solebury School, Pitcairn made her New York debut at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall in 2000 with the New York String Orchestra and appeared as soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra at the Academy of Music. She has performed at Carnegie Hall and Walt Disney Concert Hall and in many countries around the world. In addition to a full schedule of national and international tours, Pitcairn is currently the CEO and artistic director of the Luzerne Music Center in New York.
Thomas is a professor and the director of Keyboard Collaborative Arts at Chapman College in California.
