Ed passed away on Thursday, Feb. 17, 2022 after a long illness.
Born in Washington, D.C. in 1931, he attended Lehigh University where he majored in mechanical engineering. He excelled in academics, was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and was recognized as one of the top ten most outstanding engineering ROTC students in the country. Ed also obtained his MBA from the University of Delaware.
He met the love of his life, Jane, in 1951 in Ocean City, Md. After a two-year courtship they were married in 1953. After a brief stint in private industry Ed joined the Air Force as a second lieutenant satisfying his ROTC obligation. Leaving the Air Force, he took a job with Union Carbide and then became employed in the fledgling aerospace industry with Thiokol Corporation, where he enjoyed a long and distinguished career. He managed various Thiokol business units while relocating his growing family 12 times over his career. His success at Thiokol eventually led him to Bucks County where he settled Jane and his four daughters. Later in life he was employed by General Instrument Corp. in New York City as senior vice president of Investor Relations. After retirement from corporate life Ed (a self-described real estate junkie) partnered with a well-known local builder and together planned and built Jefferson Court and other projects in Bucks County.
An avid golfer, he belonged to several clubs including Saucon Valley C.C. where he was a member in good standing of the “Thundering Herd.”
Ed is survived by his wife, Jane, to whom he was married for 68 years and four daughters who live close by: Cynthia Miller (Robert Miller), Jean Pinello (Frank Pinello), Sue Ziesel (Michael Godown) and Elizabeth Kica; and five grandchildren.
Ed had a long and interesting life. His family mourns his loss, but consider themselves lucky to have shared so many years in his excellent company. As they and their friends say “to know him was to love him.” We will miss his gentle ways, his kind heart, and his ready smile.
Family and friends are invited to Ed’s Life Celebration, Saturday, Feb. 26, from 9-11 a.m., at St. Martin of Tours RC Church, 1 Riverstone Circle, New Hope, Pa., and to participate in his Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Thompson Memorial Church Cemetery, 1680 Aquetong Road, New Hope, Pa.
