Doylestown Presbyterian Church cancels drive-through Living Nativity

Posted

UPDATE: Due to the likelihood of frigid temperatures, high winds, and icy roads Doylestown Presbyterian Church has canceled the Drive-Thru Nativity that was set for Friday.

The original story is below:

Doylestown Presbyterian Church is ready once again to offer “a magical glimpse of Jesus’ birth” Friday, Dec. 23, during a Drive-Thru Nativity.

Back by popular demand, this experience presented by the DPC Dads group returns to bring joy to visitors of all ages. Mechanics Street will once again be transformed into Bethlehem, featuring animals, shepherds, wise men, the angel Gabriel and of course Mary, Joseph, and Jesus.

The community is invited to drive along Mechanics Street between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. (entering via Broad Street) to see the story come to life. There is no cost for admission but volunteers will be collecting donations, which will benefit the Coalition to Shelter and Support the Homeless and the Code Blue shelter that operates at DPC and other locations throughout the winter months.

A group of dedicated DPC dads, along with Pastor John Willingham, started the tradition last year and everyone is eager to make the 2022 edition even more memorable.

“Last year was so rewarding for us, and we can’t wait to go bigger this year,” said Matt Rizk, a member of the dads group. “Seeing the cars lined up and greeting many new and familiar faces made it all worthwhile.”

DPC also welcomes the community to attend its Christmas Eve worship services, with undesignated offerings going toward Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (Hurricane Ian).

At 3:30 p.m. Dec. 24, DPC will let its children take the lead in its Family Service, when they will offer their own version of the events surrounding Jesus’ birth.

Later, at 5 p.m., the church will offer its Traditional Candlelight Service (with childcare available) and then worship in the evening with its Candlelight Communion Services at 7 and 9 p.m. – these three services feature a stirring visual scene when everyone illuminates their candles together. All services will take place inside the Sanctuary at 127 E. Court St. The 7 p.m. service will be available via Livestream or as a recording at dtownpc.org.
