Dragonflies Healing Salon and Spa celebrates grand opening

Posted

For six years, Jessica Smalley operated her hair salon in a small space at Fifth and Market streets in Perkasie.

During particularly busy stretches, she and her stylists felt like they didn’t have enough time to really get to know their clients.

“It was stressful,” she said. “It seemed like we were just pumping them out, trying to make room for the next client.”

Since purchasing the former Claire’s Flower Shop on Callowhill Street in December, space is no longer an issue.

With more than 1,600 square feet – about three times more than her old space and with more available for expansion – Dragonflies Healing Spa and Salon has become exactly the kind of relaxing, welcoming environment Smalley has long dreamed about providing for the Perkasie community.

“We can breathe,” she said with a smile.

Dragonflies recently hosted a Grand Opening celebration, complete with a ribbon-cutting, refreshments, gift basket raffles to benefit Pennridge FISH and gift card specials.

In addition to haircuts and coloring, Dragonflies offers a variety of massages by therapist Donna Provest, manicures and pedicures, and eyelash extensions. Eventually, Smalley said, she would like to add tanning and additional healing practices such as Reiki and Reflexology.

As it is, she and her staff try to incorporate healing techniques into all their services. A shampoo, for example, includes a scalp massage while manicures and pedicures include hand and foot massages, she said.

“When you are touching people you are healing them,” Smalley said. “We like to take our time with each client. We want it to be a relaxing experience where they can enjoy the atmosphere, talk to their stylist and leave here feeling better than when they came in.”
