Doylestown Rugby Academy team wins RugbyPA State Championship

The Doylestown Rugby Academy junior boys team (eighth to ninth graders) defeated La Salle College High School on May 21 in the RugbyPA State Championship match held at PSU-Berks. The final score was 50-7.

The match was very competitive in the first half, with Doylestown holding a 7-0 lead with only two minutes left in the half. Doylestown was able to run in two tries in the final two minutes to take a 19-0 lead into halftime.

Doylestown played a portion of the second half down two players (15 v 13) due to illegal tackles, and this was when La Salle was able to punch in its lone try of the match.

Try scorers for Doylestown were: Gavin Graham (two), Timmy Fuhrmeister (one), Alex Stukis (one), Jackson Hornick (one), Aaron Kelly (one), Jackson Reilly (one) and Joey Craig (one). Conversions were kicked by Craig (four) and Stukis (one).

The Dragons finished 9-0 on the season.

On May 21, the Doylestown Rugby Academy high school girls team fell to the Knightmares RFC 27-12 in the RugbyPA State Championship match held at PSU-Berks.

Reaghan King and Sydney Worthington scored the Dragons’ two tries. Nolah Flynn made one conversion kick. Senior captain Maddie Doyle won the 2023 RugbyPA Player of the Year Award.

The team will take part in the EGRL Championship Weekend at Bundt Park in Lebanon, NJ on June 10 and 11.
