Doylestown resident makes 3rd donation to Wigs for Kids

Posted

Halfway through spring, everything is growing – including Jane Jones’ hair, slowly but surely, after lobbing off 13 inches this past winter.

As she has done twice in the past, the Doylestown resident recently donated several inches of hair to Wigs for Kids, a nonprofit that serves children experiencing hair loss. Her locks were cut on Dec. 31, 2023, at Great Clips in Doylestown.

Wigs for Kids accepts hair donations that are 12-plus inches in length. The cost for creating a hairpiece is $1,800, according to the nonprofit, which provides wigs to families free of charge. Children who receive hair pieces from Wigs for Kids have experienced hair loss from chemotherapy, radiation therapy, alopecia, trichotillomania, burns and other medical causes.

Jones has donated her hair to Wigs for Kids on two previous occasions – in 2016 and 2021 – and cited the inspiring stories of children who receive the wigs as her motivation for growing out and donating her locks.

She hopes to make her fourth donation in 2027, for her 70th birthday.
