Doylestown Nature Club explores birds of prey

Posted

Doylestown Nature Club presents “Birds of Prey: Live Session with a Harris Hawk,” at 1 p.m. Nov. 11, Buckingham Township Building, 4613 Hughesian Way (off Route 413), Buckingham, by Master Falconer Tom Stanton.

Stanton knows first-hand about the Harris Hawk. Raptors and birds in general, have been a part of his life for over 50 years. He has been influenced by some of the most experienced and knowledgeable falconers in Pennsylvania.

Also known as the Bay-winged Hawk, the Harris Hawk, has been one of Stanton’s favorite birds to care for over the past 10 years. The most social of North American raptors, Harris Hawks hunt together as a team, which is why Stanton and his Harris, Apache, have such a special bond.

Stanton will share his up close and personal relationship with Apache, and discuss the care required to maintain a healthy diet and habitat for this bird. He also will discuss the role they play in the natural world and the importance of conservation.

Stanton will be available to answer questions following the presentation. Guests are welcome with a $5 donation.
