Doylestown artist hosts pop-up art shows in his garage

Posted

Doylestown artist Steph Heilakka is having another pop-up art show from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12 and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, in his garage, located at 415 Henley Court, Doylestown.
The “Autumn Art Event” will include 50 new works, many of which were created as part of a 100 paintings in a 100 days self-exploration.
When the pandemic hit, Heilakka was confronted with the reality that every venue for selling his art, including a planned gallery show in Helsinki, Finland, was closed down.
“I needed a venue,” he said. As I was walking through the garage it occurred to me that I could throw open the doors, move the cars out, put paintings on the walls and have a unique event space. That is how my garage gallery was born, complete with its own chandelier.”

His first pop-up art show was “Christmas in July” last year. The theme of the works, created during the first six months of the lock-down, was “Confined and Constrained.” “I intentionally limited myself to reflect the way the world was feeling, keeping the works small, using one or two colors, experimenting with a very simple media.”
Heilakka who has led art tours nationally and internationally is passionate about art. As a docent at the Michener Art Museum, he has led in-person and virtual tours for the past five years. He loves teaching people how to go to a museum to really look at what they are seeing.
Guests can have mulled cider and snacks while shopping. Dress appropriately for the autumn show, as the garage doors will be up.
