The Doylestown Athletic Association 8 and under travel baseball Tigers earned an invitation to participate in the 2019 Cal Ripken Invitational World Series being played in Cherry Hill, N.J., through Aug. 15.

The 12-player team finished as runner-up in its district tournament held in Warrington in June to qualify for the Southeastern Pennsylvania State Tournament held in Chichester in July.

The state tournament was comprised of 16 teams throughout Southeastern Pennsylvania. Managers were informed at a meeting prior to the start of the tournament that the two finalists would receive automatic bids to the World Series.

Doylestown went 2-1 during pool play to qualify for the single elimination championship rounds. Doylestown squared off against BYC (3-0 in pool play) in the quarterfinal game and defeated them by a score of 5-2. Next up, the Tigers, with an automatic berth to the World Series at stake, easily handled Whitpain in the semifinals 10-0. Doylestown came up short in the championship game (6-5), but, the true prize for the team had already been won.

“The World Series is a once-in-a lifetime experience for everyone who is associated with this program. I am so proud of all the boys on this team and happy that they will be able to participate in such a memorable event,” head coach John Gilbert said.
