Dorothy “Dot” Myers of Skillman, NJ, formerly of Lambertville, NJ, died peacefully at home Tuesday September 7, 2021.
Dot was a devoted mother and caregiver, and proud breast cancer survivor. She was the neighborhood Mom for “The Hook” in Lambertville where she raised her family with her husband Wes, and later for the Dutchtown-Zion neighborhood where she lived out her final 10+ years with daughter Jane’s family. Always willing to make a spot at her table for those that had nowhere to celebrate or have a meal, she loved her friends, family, grandchildren, grand-dogs and great grand-dogs unconditionally. She always had a ready smile, enthusiastic greeting and the occasional dog treat for any visitor. She was particularly fond of the canine members of the household, a true dog lover to the end. Most recently, she would enjoy “conversations” with her great grand-dog sitting on her lap when he would come to visit. To this day, Yorkie Bentley refuses to give up her secrets since in his words - “he’s not a snitch”.
While she lived with Jane’s family and was able, she enjoyed many adventures. She particularly loved joining the family at Patriots Park for a baseball game. The mascots enjoyed meeting her and would always pose with her for special pictures. During one notable game she was hit in the head by a foul ball. Mere mortals would have curled up into a fetal position and asked to leave, but not Dot. When the paramedics arrived and began asking for her personal information, in a strong voice and sound mind she stated that “she had been advised not to disclose that information to anyone thank you”. One of her nine lives down but she recovered with no visible side effects - and even got to keep the ball!
Son-in-law Dave went out of his way to make her comfortable and to pamper her on special days. She raved about Dave’s spaghetti and meatballs, her absolute favorite meal. She would dismiss lobster, scallops or steak and rather have spaghetti when it was her decision. Dot and Dave enjoyed many exchanges, pleasantly sparring. Dot was given the privilege of joining Dave on the maiden voyage of every new vehicle in his car collection that arrived. They had a special relationship.
She was blessed in this life with many angel helpers along her journey. There are several special friends that she would have wanted noted.
We will forever be in the debt of Joy, Annette and Aneika for their love of Dot and the care they provided that enabled her to be comfortable in her final days at home. Son Wes was always willing to help with Dot for various rides and extended Dot-sitting when Jane’s family was out of town. Dear friend Eileen was always a willing helper to drive her to appointments. Eileen initially helped by driving Dot to appointments, and became a longtime friend. Her “Make it a good day” parting comment always put a smile on Dot’s face. Dear friend Jo visited frequently, always bringing flowers, a smile, much love, and good conversation. Cousin Norma was a willing helper driving her to appointments and was a daily phone call and lifeline for Dot. Neighbor John was a source of sweet treats and bad jokes during frequent visits. Dot was blessed with many other friends both near and far and many kept in regular touch with her.
Cousin Brian visited regularly and enjoyed discussing family history with Dot. His visit the night before she passed was special and a comfort to Dot and the family.
Dot retired from Hunterdon Healthcare in 1997 as a supervisor in housekeeping after many years. She made and kept many friends through her years of service to the hospital.
She was a loving and caring woman, with a huge heart and a generous spirit. She was beloved by many and will be missed, including by the myriad of dogs that enriched her life over the years.
Dot was the wife of the late Wes Myers and the daughter of the late Gilbert and Clara Bernard. She is survived by her children Wesley E. Myers and his wife Elizabeth of Kingwood Township, Jane Leonard and her husband David of Skillman and Michael H. Myers and his wife Jennifer of Lambertville; her grandchildren Corwin Myers, Amber Myers, Devon Leonard, Erin Lowney and her husband Brenton, Ashley Mudrak and her husband Andy, and Joshua Myers; her grand-dogs Milo and Molly and her great-grand-dogs Jade and Bentley.
