Donald Walter Martens

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Donald Walter Martens into the Kingdom of Heaven on May 13th, 2024, at the age of 88, of Plumstead, PA. He was the devoted husband of Connie Martens.

He lived in Doylestown 1970-2003, Buckingham Spring 2003-2018, and Plumstead 2018-2024. He was the youngest son and last surviving of 3 children of the late Marion (Klugist) and Walter Martens.

Don was a member of the Solebury United Methodist Church. He was a 1954 graduate of Barrington High School and a 1959 graduate of University of Rhode Island in Business Administration.

Don joined the Army Reserves in his first year of college, and joined the Army as a Second Lieutenant in 1959. He was honorably discharged from the Army in April 10th 1968.

He met his future wife at Barrington High School, and married Connie Gibson on August 9th, 1958. His first job was with his father’s company Dustex (1960-1962) and then worked for Columbia Records 1962-1970, TDS 1970-1978, opened up a restaurant “Martens Patio” in Doylestown from 1978-1985, he also worked at Frankenfield Buick till 1984, after Steve Gibson unexpectedly passed away he joined Connie at Steve’s Photo in 1989 and sold the businesses to their sons (Don and Brett) in 2002. He then worked part-time for Central Bucks School District until 2016.

Don enjoyed his family and enjoyed having family over for major holiday events. For many years he had many enjoyable family summer vacations at Gibson camp ground as well as at the shore of Sea Isle City, NJ for 35 years. In his retirement, he traveled with his wife, Connie on trips to Florida to see their son Don and niece Karen and Bob Benedict, trips to Puerto Rico and many small trips in America and going to England to see their niece, Jennifer.

He enjoyed building furniture, built an addition to his Doylestown home, fixing cars, motorcycles, boats, fishing, going to the shore, and many trips going to Lancaster.

He is survived by his wife Constance Martens, children: David W. Martens (Barb) of Chalfont, Laurie Hasenhauer (Duane) of Plumstead, Don W. Martens of Florida and Brett Martens of Souderton; grandchildren: Duane Jr, David Jr, Mathew, Lilly, and Grace, great-grandchildren: David III, Juliette, Nora and Jacob and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his two siblings Edwin and Lynne.

There will be a church service on Saturday, June 1st, 2024, at 11:00 am at Solebury United Methodist Church, 2536 Aquetong Road, New Hope, PA 18938.
