Tucked into the upper floor of the Bucks County Playhouse with lovely views overlooking the Delaware River is The Deck Restaurant & Bar, a gastropub where New Hope theatergoers go for drinks, dinner and snacks and shoppers stop by for lunch.
Opened a year ago, the restaurant has a new director of restaurant operations. Marc BrownGold is an experienced chef, best known in Bucks County for the years he owned JustFood by BrownGold and JustEat by BrownGold in Buckingham.
Since arriving at The Deck, he has made some changes to the menu and added seasonal plates.
Already good, “the food is just going to get better,” said BrownGold, who added a new three-course prix fixe dinner on Tuesday nights for $25.
The restaurant is casual chic with a full bar featuring signature craft cocktails, local brews, eight beer taps and an extensive wine list.
Diners who cross the parking lot to the entrance behind the Playhouse will find access by stairs or elevator. That leads them to the dining room, where a piano is strategically located for open mic nights with pianist Bob Egan on Wednesdays, as well cabaret acts. The Deck also has comedians and storytellers on its calendar, BrownGold said.
The current menu is “how people are eating right now,” he said, and includes “snacks” of Mexican street corn, baked ricotta, grilled sausage, fries with béarnaise sauce, and chicken wings.
The sandwich menu includes beef and vegetarian burgers as well as a lobster roll and pressed baguettes with changing fillings.
The entrée list is short but offers something for pretty much everyone with pasta, roast chicken, salmon, steak and a vegetarian dish, Raditore, with English peas, local mushrooms, pancetta and whipped ricotta.
The dessert menu is short and sweet with chocolate torte with matcha ice cream and crystalized ginger, and pear and bourbon bread pudding with buttermilk ice cream and maple whiskey sauce.
The Deck is popular with theatergoers who can choose a drink, a quick snack or dinner before a show, as well as anyone visiting New Hope for lunch or dinner who is looking for an upscale casual meal with a river view.
“It’s where people can go who want a good, honest meal,” said BrownGold.
Proceeds from The Deck support the non-profit mission of the Bucks County Playhouse.
